Things To Do Around Our Hotel In Oldham

Smokies Park, Home of Holiday Inn Manchester Oldham, is a super base for visiting local attractions such as The Lowry Art Gallery, Imperial War Museum, the Etihad Stadium and of course the world-famous Old Trafford Football Ground. We are a short drive from Saddleworth, home of the brass bands contest, Yanks weekend, morris dancing, canals and narrow-boats. We have put together a handy list of local attractions ranging from attractions on our doorstep to those a short drive away of up to 10 miles. 

Daisy Nook

Country Park

A stones throw from the hotel, Daisy Nook Country Park is 40 hectares of varied landscape in the heart of the Medlock Valley.  There are waterways, a lake, a canal, woodlands and wildflower meadows, a great habitat for wildlife and bird-spotting – with an abundance of creatures from great-spotted woodpeckers and owls, to foxes and squirrels. There are footpaths and bridleways for horse riding that link to neighbouring countryside areas.

Dovestones Reservoir

National Park

With its breath taking vistas, the Dove Stone area of Saddleworth in Oldham, offers visitors the chance to explore part of the Peak District National Park. Great for hiking, Dovestones offers a range of trails from easy and accessible wheelchair circuits through to moderate and hard rated hikes complete with waterfall scrambles. Dove Stone Reservoir is the best place in Oldham to see plantation woodlands, which contain a mixture of conifer trees.

Etihad Stadium

Home of Manchester City Football Club

The Etihad Stadium was built in for the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Following the games, the stadium was converted into a football stadium and is home to Manchester City football club. The stadium is also known for hosting a wide range of other events including concerts and offers regular tours of the grounds.

Manchester is famous for it’s shopping and we are lucky enough to have many shopping centres, such as the Trafford centre and independent retailers within a short journey of the hotel. The Arndale Shopping Centre in Manchester is the UK’s largest city-centre shopping centre with over 240 retailers meaning you can shop till you drop & then relax and unwind at Smokies Park!
